Skin Cancer Symptoms

The medical diagnosis of skin cancer is a malignant neoplasm of the skin. Unless diagnosed and timely treated, skin cancer, in certain forms can prove to be fatal. Being an exterior form of cancer, skin cancer can be recognized and is simple to treat. What it should be the default factor in early recognition of skin cancer is that any person who notices any from of extruding skin growth or sores appear anywhere on their skin, should immediately make contact with their family doctor of health center for immediate treatment.

A general practitioner will rarely take upon himself to identify the type of growth and instead will order a biopsy to be carried out, and as soon as possible. The biopsy involves scraping a portion of the affected tissue for analysis and to ascertain if there is any form of malignancy present in the tissue. If this is found to be the case the skin cancer sufferer will be invited to an immediate consultation by a treating doctor to verify the extent of the cancer and its form. With this information at his disposal, the treating doctor will then decide on the course of treatment required to treat the cancer.

Basically the principal symptoms of skin cancer are changes on the skin surface. The appearance of growth is dependant on the form of skin cancer.

These can be as follows:

  • Growths
  • Lumps: Sometimes a lump that will form that shiny or smooth in appearance and are red in color.
  • Spots: Bright red spots, flat in appearance.
  • Moles: A melanoma can begin to form beside an existing mole. The borders appear irregular, mottled and blotchy.
  • Sores that do not appear to be healing, that constantly bleed

There are also other symptoms of skin cancer which are hard to directly connect with the disease. Fairly typical of other forms of cancer they are as follows:

  • Sore throats
  • Sudden weight loss
  • Tiredness

These symptoms are so general that they will make it only possible for the doctor to confirm the diagnosis and no more. The principal symptoms are any form of persistent changes in the skin surface, as laid out above. Any signs of these irregularities should be taken very seriously. Prompt treatment and skin cancer diagnosis can and probably will save lives.
